City of Houston Public Housing
Situated directly across from Texas Southern University (TSU) in Houston's historic Third Ward community, Cuney Homes was the first development opened by the Housing Authority in 1938. This apartment complex is named for Norris Wright Cuney, a prominent African American leader in Texas during the late 1800s.
The complex has received extensive rehabilitation; in 1997, the Housing Authority's design and modernization work won a National Award of Merit from the National Association of Housing & Redevelopment Officials.
