Housing Authority of the County of San Joaquin offers housing assistance to residents that qualify . Assistance is provided through the management of programs such as Low Income Public Housing, the Housing Choice Voucher Program - Section 8 and the Migrant Family Farm Labor Housing Developments. There may be a waiting list for assistance or rentals in the programs. Public housing is a form of affordable housing that was established to provide decent and safe rental housing for eligible low-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. HACSJ owns and manages over 1,000 public housing units at four locations throughout San Joaquin County. Rents for the public housing communities are income based. Similar to the Housing Choice Voucher program, tenant rent is generally 30% of the adjusted gross income.
