The Missoula Housing Authority offers a variety of different housing assistance programs to low and middle income households in Missoula and the surrounding area. Housing Choice Vouchers
Housing Choice Vouchers make private-market housing affordable for low-income families and individuals. The Missoula Housing Authority administers Housing Choice Vouchers and forms a partnership with tenants and landlords to provide housing opportunities throughout the City of Missoula and outside the city limits within a ten-mile radius. Through the Housing Choice Voucher program, 774 families have secured quality housing in neighborhoods of their choice in Missoula. Learn more...
Public Housing
Public Housing has the mission to provide safe, decent, and affordable rental housing to low income families. Anyone can apply for public housing, by attending a Mandatory Orientation session.

Low Income Housing Tax Credit
The Low Income Housing Tax Credit Program (LIHTC), created under Section 42 of the Tax Reform Act of 1986 to encourage investors to help build affordable housing for low income individuals and families.
If you are interested in applying for any of MHA's subsidized housing programs, rental assistance programs, or homeless programs, the first step is attending an MHA mandatory orientation. If you don't live in Missoula, you can download a paper application with the links below. Paper applications only function as an alternative for individuals unable to attend an MHA orientation. You are encouraged to attend an orientation if at all possible. Visit the website provided above to fill out an online application.

Most low income apartments have waiting lists. Some of these lists can take years until you can be called for openings. The key is to try to get on as many waiting lists as possible.

Apartment Rates
We provide current apartment rates on many listing pages. Most HUD listings do not have published rates. They are based on 30% of the renters adjustable gross income. You will need to contact the apartments to determine if you qualify for income based rent.
