Established in 1968, the goals of the national housing law project (NHLP) are to: increase and preserve the supply of decent affordable housing; improve housing conditions; expand and enforce low-income tenants' and homeowners' rights; and increase housing opportunities for minorities. NHLP provides legal and technical assistance, training, and resources to advocates who serve poor people. NHLP researches issues affecting the housing rights of low-income people and advocates for changes to public policy that increase access to decent affordable housing.
Over the past 40 years, NHLP has helped to establish many fundamental rights enjoyed by low-income tenants and homeowners and has preserved more than one million units of affordable housing.
