Providence Housing's mission is to strengthen families and communities by creating and providing access to quality affordable housing enriched by the availability of supportive services.
Shelter Plus Care Program:
Providence Housing's Shelter Plus Care Program assists individuals that are homeless and have qualifying disabilities to find placement in safe, affordable housing which is critical to his/her stability and well-being.
An eligible disability can be a history of substance use disorder, a mental illness or a diagnosis of AIDS or AIDS related diseases that impede the ability to live independently. Homelessness is defined as someone staying in an emergency shelter, graduating from a transitional housing facility or is in the process of being evicted within seven days from a private dwelling.
An individual coming into the Shelter Plus Care Program with the prognosis of chemical addiction must have 90 days clean from the point of application, demonstrate the willingness to participate in a recovery based program of treatment, must show a strong commitment to abstaining from drugs and alcohol, and should have two strong supports (i.e., Sponsor, Home Group, etc.)
Veteran's Housing Program:
The Veteran's Permanent Housing Program is funded by the HUD Supportive Housing Program. This program is designed to provide permanent housing to income-eligible individuals who are a minimum of 18 years of age, are low-income households, have veteran status by national standards, are homeless by HUD definition and have been diagnosed as having a disability.
Participants contribute 30% of their adjusted gross income to the program.

Most low income apartments have waiting lists. Some of these lists can take years until you can be called for openings. The key is to try to get on as many waiting lists as possible.

We provide current apartment rates on many listing pages. Most HUD listings do not have published rates. They are based on 30% of the renters adjustable gross income. You will need to contact the apartments to determine if you qualify for income based rent.
